The Weave
2019
Project
The Weave started out from an urge to look deeper into the living nature of matter and a yearning to communicate this through the experience of architecture. This led us into a theoretical investigation along with a material study and an architectural implementation. The theoretical part revolves around the theory of relatedness, elucidated by the architect and design theorist Christopher Alexander in one of his latest books, The Luminous Ground. The second part of the project is the material exploration surrounding ceramic 3D printing, and how to use this technique to produce expressive bricks. And the last part of the project, its architectural form, sprung from the two previous studies. In it, the material possibilities of the clay were combined with the aim of mediating relatedness through the interaction with an architectural object.
