Woven Structures
2019
Project
Through the application of fractal noise and various dynamisms (ways of scaling, splitting, and copying forms used in the generation of Hindu temple architecture) we have developed and created several intertwined ceramic structures made from 3D printed bricks. Based on one of the architect Christopher Alexander's latest theoretical works, The Luminous Ground, the structures explore the possibility of expressing the inherent liveliness of matter through form and process. The project is a practical contribution to the discussion of how 3D printing can be used in architecture to produce articulated and expressive building elements, and raises the question of a human need for materiality and form.
