The Weave
2019
The Weave is a proposal for an urban, non-confessional shrine inspired by algorithmic processes found in Hindu temple architecture and by Christopher Alexander’s theory of relatedness, as articulated in The Luminous Ground.
The project began with a desire to explore the living nature of matter and to communicate this through architectural experience. A thorough investigation into the potential of ceramic 3D printing to produce complex and expressive bricks ultimately led to the design of the shrine. Several intertwined ceramic threads come together to form a cupola structure. A 1:2 prototype of one section was produced, revealing the intricate slicing logic of the geometry.
The project is fully documented in the book The Weave, and culminates in a spatial form where the material capacities of clay are shaped through both theoretical inquiry and material experimentation.
