Woven Structures
2020
The project consists of a series of interwoven ceramic structures composed of 3D-printed bricks. Generated through fractal noise and a set of operations such as scaling, splitting, and reiteration inspired by principles embedded in Hindu temple architecture, the work explores how complex spatial formations can emerge through rule-based iterative growth.
Informed by Christopher Alexander’s later work The Luminous Ground, the structures examine how the intrinsic livliness of matter may be articulated through processes of formation and assembly. Each brick is computationally varied and assembled into larger configurations, where subtle differences accumulate into coherent yet differentiated wholes.
Exhibited at SPARK GALLERY in 2020, the project also serves as a material investigation into the expressive potential of additive manufacturing, reflecting on a continued human need for material presence and resonant form in contemporary architecture.
